TRAI’s New Rule: Avoid Mobile Number Suspension by Following These Guidelines

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is taking action to improve the telecom experience and protect users from unwanted promotional calls. If you’re tired of receiving these calls, here’s what you need to know about TRAI’s new directives.

  • TRAI’s Latest Decision:
    • TRAI has instructed all telecom service providers to immediately stop promotional calls, whether they are pre-recorded or computer-generated. This rule applies to calls made by Unregistered Telemarketers (UTMs) and includes spam calls.
  • Instructions for Telecom Providers:
    • TRAI has directed telecom providers to block all promotional voice calls from registered senders and unregistered telemarketers.
    • Providers should also prevent the use of SIP (Session Initiation Protocol), PRI (Primary Rate Interface), or any other telecom resources for making these calls.
  • Reason for the New Rule:
    • TRAI stated that these calls are annoying to users and need to be stopped to improve user experience and reduce disturbances.
  • Action Starting September 1:
    • From September 1, TRAI will take action against telecom providers who allow the misuse of telecom resources by unregistered senders or UTMs.
    • Providers will face penalties if they violate these rules and continue to allow spam calls.
  • Previous Actions:
    • This is not the first time TRAI has taken measures against spam calls. Previous regulations have also aimed to curb unwanted calls and protect user privacy.

What You Should Do:

  • Check Your Settings: Ensure you’ve registered your number with the National Do Not Call (NDNC) registry if you want to avoid promotional calls.
  • Report Spam: Use your telecom provider’s options to report unwanted calls and help enforce these regulations.

By staying informed and following these guidelines, you can avoid issues with your mobile number and enjoy a more pleasant calling experience.
