Bengaluru Fridge Murder
In a shocking and heinous crime that has sent shockwaves across the nation, a 26-year-old woman’s body was found chopped into approximately 30 pieces and stored in a refrigerator in an apartment in Vyalikaval, Bengaluru. The gruesome discovery, made on September 21, 2024, has left the city reeling in horror and raised concerns about the safety of women in India’s IT capital.
According to eyewitnesses, the police were alerted to the crime scene after neighbors complained of a foul smell emanating from the apartment. Upon arrival, the police found the 165-litre, single-door fridge turned on and running, with maggots infesting the body. The crime scene was immediately secured, and a dog squad and fingerprint team were deployed to collect evidence.
Investigation Underway
Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Satish Kumar confirmed that the body had been inside the fridge for some time. “We will give more information after an initial investigation. She had been living in Bengaluru, though she originally belonged to another state,” he said.
The police are reviewing CCTV footage and questioning neighbors to gather more information. A team from the Forensics Science Laboratory (FSL) has also been called to assist in the investigation.
Similarities to Shraddha Walkar Case
The Bengaluru murder bears eerie similarities to the macabre murder of 27-year-old Shraddha Walkar in Delhi in 2022. Walkar was killed by her boyfriend Aaftab Amin Poonawala, 29, and her body was chopped into 35 pieces. Poonawala then threw the body parts in a forested area near their flat.
The Bengaluru murder has left the city’s residents stunned and outraged. “This is a horrific crime that has shaken our community,” said local resident, Ramesh Kumar. “We demand justice for the victim and her family.”
Police Statement
“We will give more information after an initial investigation. She had been living in Bengaluru, though she originally belonged to another state,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Satish Kumar. The Bengaluru police have faced criticism for their handling of the case. “The police should have acted sooner,” said local resident, Priya Singh. “We need to see swift justice for the victim.”
