CPL 2024: Nicholas Pooran Breaks Chris Gayle’s Record for Most Sixes in a Year
In the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024, Nicholas Pooran has achieved a significant milestone. He has set a new record for the most sixes hit in a calendar year, surpassing the previous record held by Chris Gayle. Playing for the Trinidad Knight Riders, Pooran scored 97 runs off 43 balls in a recent match, leading his team to a 44-run victory. This performance allowed him to break Gayle’s record.
Pooran Surpasses Gayle
Chris Gayle had set the previous record with 135 sixes in 2015. He also hit 121 sixes in 2012 and 116 in 2011. This year, Nicholas Pooran has already hit 139 sixes, moving ahead of Gayle. Additionally, Pooran has been exceptional in T20 matches, amassing 1844 runs this year, which places him third on the list of highest run-scorers in a calendar year.

Top Run-Scorers List
Currently, Mohammad Rizwan holds the top spot for the most runs in a calendar year, with a record 2016 runs in 2021. England’s Alex Hales is second with 1946 runs in 2022. Nicholas Pooran has a chance to challenge this top spot and could potentially surpass both Rizwan and Hales if his outstanding form continues.
