In an unusual protest that has captured widespread attention, a businessman in Ghaziabad stripped semi-naked inside the GST office to voice his allegations of bribery against tax officials. The incident took place at the State GST office located at Mohan Nagar check-post on Saturday and has since become a viral video sensation on social media.
The protest was led by Akshay Jain, who accused GST officers of demanding a bribe of Rs 2 lakh. According to reports, Jain felt compelled to take drastic action after facing harassment for not meeting the alleged demands. In a video of the incident, Jain can be seen sitting in the office in his undergarments, vocally confronting the officers.
As tensions escalated, Jain asserted, “Aap mere se paisa nahi maang sakte, aap besharmipana kar rahe hai,” which translates to “You can’t ask me for money; you are acting shamelessly.” The confrontation occurred after Jain engaged in a heated argument with the officials, who were seated in their cabin during the incident.
Jain further claimed, “They want two lakh rupees. I don’t have the money. I will sit here semi-naked inside the office and stage a protest.” He expressed frustration over being subjected to undue pressure and claimed that he had not committed any tax fraud.
When questioned by the officers about the alleged bribery, Jain replied, “Why wouldn’t they ask? Why were you calling me quietly?” He accused the GST officials of pressuring him to meet an unrealistic revenue target of Rs 85 lakh. Following this, Jain declared his intention to observe silence in protest.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter, and the video of Jain’s protest continues to circulate widely, sparking discussions about corruption and accountability within government offices.
