Viral Video Sparks Outrage: Bengal Medical Student Alleges Discriminatory Viva Questions on Brahmin Identity and Skincare at Sagar Dutta Medical College

Viral video:

A government medical college name “Sagar Dutta Medical College and Hospital” in Kamarhati, West Bengal is facing criticism after reports emerged that students were asked Discriminatory Viva Questions on Brahmin Identity and Skincare during a viva examination. Questions were like: Are You Brahmin? Which Cream You Apply? The controversy erupted when a video shared by Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) media-in-charge on X highlighted the grievances of the students.

The video features a female student from Sagar Dutt Medical College, who claimed that while male candidates had brief viva sessions, she faced intrusive questions about her personal life, such as “Are you a Brahmin? Which cream do you use on your face?” and “What do you apply on your lips?” This revelation has led to widespread protests among the student body.

Student Protests and Institutional Reaction

In response to the allegations, students were seen voicing their discontent and challenging the college administration. DH was unable to independently verify the video’s authenticity. This incident follows recent vandalism at the college, which occurred during a meeting where college officials were addressing student protests over hostel allocations.

The unrest also ties into broader campus issues, including ongoing protests related to the R G Kar rape and murder case. Yesterday marked a month since the tragic incident involving a trainee doctor at a government-run facility in Kolkata.

Political Ramifications and Public Outcry

Sourish Mukherjee of the VHP, who posted the video, criticized the current administration under the Trinamool Congress (TMC) for allegedly undermining talented Hindu students in West Bengal. Mukherjee called on nationalists to act “legally, socially, and intellectually” against what he described as an attempt to suppress merit.

This controversy has sparked a heated debate about the fairness and integrity of academic evaluations at the college. As more details emerge, there is growing pressure on authorities to address the issues and restore trust within the institution.
